The Brand Blog
written by The LogoLady
The internet is a noisy, chaotic place.
Everyone is shouting, waving their hands, and desperately trying to be noticed.
And if your brand is blending into the background, well… you might as well be whispering in a nightclub.
So, how do you stand out without resorting to gimmicks or embarrassing TikTok dances (unless that’s your thing, in which case - go for it)?
Let’s break it down.
Why Some Brands Get Noticed (and Others Get Ignored)
Ever wonder why brands like Apple, Innocent Drinks, and Gymshark have cult-like followings while others struggle to get engagement? Well, it's not luck, it's strategy.
These brands have nailed their identity and consistently show up in a way that makes them instantly recognisable. They know who they are, what they stand for, and how to communicate it.
If your brand isn’t standing out, it’s probably because:
You sound like everyone else - If your tagline could be swapped with your competitor’s and no one would notice… It's too generic.
Your visuals aren’t unique or eye-catching – Using the same Canva template as every other business? It’s OK but it’s not ideal.
You’re playing it too safe – If you’re afraid to show your brand’s personality, you’re going to blend into the beige abyss of forgettable businesses.
You’re trying to please everyone – When you market to everyone, you connect with no one. This is huge. I come up against this all the time when clients are afraid that by niching they are excluding potential clients - you’re not. You have to trust me on this.
How to Make Your Brand Impossible to Ignore
If you want to be the Beyoncé of your industry (aka instantly recognisable, admired, and iconic), here’s what you need to do:
1. Find Your Differentiator (aka Your Brand’s Superpower)
What makes YOU special? What makes your business different from the rest? It could be:
Your unique design style (Are you bold and colorful? Sleek and modern?)
Your brand voice (Are you playful, professional, quirky, or edgy?)
The way you deliver your service (Do you offer a VIP experience? Are you fun and high-energy?)
Example: Innocent Drinks doesn’t just sell smoothies - they have a personality. Their branding is playful, their copy is witty, and their tone is friendly. That’s what makes them memorable and so relatable to their target market.
2. Show Personality (Because People Buy From People)
Nobody wants to buy from a faceless corporation with all the charm of a tax return. People connect with humans, stories, and emotions.
Inject personality into everything you do. Whether it’s your website, emails, social media posts, or packaging, let your brand personality shine through!
Example: Think of brands like Gymshark - yes, they sell activewear, but their community-driven approach and bold, confident branding have turned them into a global movement.
Ask yourself: If your brand were a person at a party, what would they be like? Loud and fun? Sophisticated and charming? The one who tells dad jokes? Embrace that personality!
3. Be Consistent (Because Clarity = Confidence)
If your branding looks like a mishmash of styles, fonts, and colours thrown together by a committee that couldn’t agree on anything… Houston, we have a problem.
Your brand should be instantly recognisable across every touchpoint - your website, Instagram, packaging, emails, EVERYTHING.
Example: Apple’s branding is consistent down to the tiniest detail. Whether it’s their website, stores, or packaging, it all FEELS like Apple.
Action Step: Create brand guidelines (here is a free template for you to copy!) that define your colour palette, fonts, tone of voice, and messaging so your brand stays cohesive.
Final Thought: Stop Playing Small!
Your brand isn’t boring, YOU are not boring - so don’t look boring. Show up, own your space, and be the brand people talk about.
